Questions

Frequently asked

What is The Expat Club?

A membership community for internationals living in South Africa, launching in Cape Town in January 2027. Its in-person events will include newcomers' welcomes, monthly socials, interest groups like hikes and padel, and signature experiences. It's built to help you build friendships after you arrive, not just network.

When does The Expat Club launch?

Cape Town first, in January 2027. Johannesburg and Durban around mid 2027. Join the list now for founding-member access and first invitations.

What will the first meeting be?

That's up to the founding list. Until 15 December, members are voting between a weeknight drink, a Saturday morning hike and a long Sunday lunch. Join the list and you get a vote.

Which cities is The Expat Club launching in?

Cape Town first, then Johannesburg and Durban. Each city has its own page and calendar, and members will be able to attend events in any city.

Am I charged anything now?

No. Joining the founding list is free, and so is creating a member profile. Nothing is charged now.

How much does membership cost?

There's a free tier that lets you join and pay per event. Paid membership is currently at founding rates (R99/month or R990/year), which include reduced or priority-priced entry to events. Prices rise to R149/month and R1,430/year on 1 February 2027, but founders keep their joining price for as long as they remain a member.

What does joining the founding list mean?

You get Club news and first invitations by email, starting with the Cape Town launch in January 2027, and you can take up the founding price, which is for people who join by 31 January 2027. You can unsubscribe whenever you like.

Can I meet people before I arrive?

Yes. A free member profile works today: once you confirm your email, you can browse the member directory, filter by city and message other members before you land.

Are any events free?

No. Every event will be ticketed, and members will pay less than guests.
